On the second day, our Coordinator will give an orientation about the project you will be working on. You will be working with the Child development program while learning about the culture and customs of the local Ugandan people.
Day 3-27: Volunteer Work
THE PROGRAM IN MUKONO:
As a volunteer you will work alongside local teams that provide at-risk children and abandoned babies a safe environment in which they are nurtured and they participate in a number of extra-curricular activities.
The way a child is brought up determines the future of the child. Children are abandoned by their mothers immediately after leaving the labor ward. Do they even know how long it will take before someone gets to find that baby and look after her/him? The babies are thrown in pit latrines and some of these babies remain alive until they are pulled out of there. For so many years, Uganda has battled with this, and yet even today, children are abandoned on streets, hospital wards, outside private resident’s gates, and even in the bush.
Go Volunteer Africa’s Uganda childcare volunteering project offer needy kids the love and parental care in our children homes. Most of the children are traumatized by the incidences that occurred and it takes them time to adjust and feel comfortable among new people. This mostly happens to children in the age bracket of 3-7. As for the infants of 2 years and below, these do not recall what happened to them and so they live and grow up knowing that this is their home and family.
These children need love, care, attention, observation and monitoring, and emotional support. The organization might have taken in the children, but they also require assistance from volunteers.
Come and volunteer, spend time with the children. Show them that motherly love and give them support. Show them the bright light at the end of the tunnel. Give them hope for a better tomorrow. These children will be parents tomorrow, guide them on how to be responsible and change their negative thinking about humanity. They will be great leaders tomorrow.
This Uganda childcare volunteering project is designed to provide kids from 3 to 10 years old with creative outlets and opportunities to make constructive use of their time and also to provide nurturing environment for 0-2yr olds. Volunteers help children to practice reading, writing, arithmetic, and English while making time for various games and recreational activities.
The volunteers can also help coordinate important educational workshops to caretakers in areas lacking emphasis in general such as recycling, nutrition, hygiene, and self-esteem. This is a fun project for anyone who loves working with children. The kids are very enthusiastic and always keen to learn, play, and interact with volunteers.
Go Volunteer Africa’s Childcare Volunteering Project Uganda volunteers’ work for five days that is from Monday to Friday. Weekends are always your days off. You will be required to work for 6 hours each day. Breakfast is served at 7:30am till 8:30am. However since you will be working with babies, daily activities can start as early as 6:00am.
This is because by this time, the babies are awake and you might be needed to help in feeding them, bathing them or even changing them. Daily activities that you choose to be involved in on particular days, will determine how long you will be working. So you might exceed 6 hours of working. But, since you will be with the coordinator all the time, you can agree on how long you wish to work on a particular activity per day.
Since you always have weekends off, there is chance for you to adventure. Uganda is not called the pearl of Africa for no reason; there is a lot of nature to see; wildlife, water activities on the source of the Nile, hiking on mountains, forestry, museums, and cultural exchange.
On the weekends you are encouraged to explore the country with friends you make on the program, and our representatives are available to give travel advice and make bookings for you.
Day 28 – Good bye party/ Barbecue night
Your friends at the program will organize a party for you and barbecue night to thank you for the service and your contribution.
